NZ LAW Limited has announced the appointment of its new chair, Mark Henderson, and the election of two new directors to its board, Amanda Crehan (Richmond, Nelson) and Sam Walker (Lower Hutt). These appointments took effect from 4 October 2019.
Mark Henderson succeeds Auckland lawyer, Kristine King, who has retired from NZ LAW’s board. Mark says, “The board and I would like to acknowledge the contribution that Kristine King has made to the board as a director for seven years and, in the past three years, as chair. Kristine was our first female chair and she brought unbridled enthusiasm to her role. Under her leadership, the group has developed strong AML compliance initiatives, and extended its already-comprehensive solicitor and legal executive training programmes.”
Mark Henderson was elected to NZ LAW’s board in 2014. He is a litigation partner in Christchurch law firm, Corcoran French. His disputes resolution practice focuses on commercial and construction disputes, earthquake claims, debt recovery, employment law and insurance issues.
New director, Amanda Crehan, is a partner at Knapps, a law firm based in Richmond, Nelson. Heading Knapps’ estate planning and administration team, Amanda has a particular interest in the development in the law of mental capacity and is a contributor to the about-to-be-published book on this topic. She is on the Board of the Alzheimer’s Society in Nelson.
Lower Hutt lawyer, Sam Walker, is a property law partner in Gillespie Young Watson’s residential conveyancing division, HomeLegal. He also works on private client and commercial law matters. Mid-career, he took some time off to play rugby in Ireland and Denmark before returning to New Zealand to join Gillespie Young Watson.
Mark Henderson welcomes Amanda and Sam to the NZ LAW Limited board. “We look forward to their contributions to the group.
NZ LAW would also like to acknowledge the work of Natalie Smith who has retired from the board. We thank her very much for her commitment to NZ LAW over her term as a director.

NZ LAW Limited is an association of independent legal practices with member firms located throughout New Zealand. There are currently 53 member firms practising in a wide range of legal disciplines ranging from business law, home buying and selling, immigration law and intellectual property to aviation law and viticulture.
The group was established in 1992 when five law firms met in Auckland to find a way to benefit their clients by replicating the conviviality and the sharing of ideas and expertise that occurs in larger law firms, but still wanting to retain client confidentiality and their own independence.
